SHSU Faculty Publish International Book Chapter on Children's Rights and Reggio Emilia Education

Dr. Hatice Zeynep İnan and Dr. Melissa Dawn Gatlin of Sam Houston State University's College of Education, together with school director Aysenur Güngör-Kırçadağ, have authored a peer-reviewed book chapter in the international volume Realizing Children's Rights in a Global Context: Glocalization of the Reggio Emilia Experience, published by IGI Global. The chapter was selected following a rigorous peer-review process and appears in a two-volume collection featuring leading international scholars in Reggio Emilia-inspired education.

Their chapter, "Enacting Children's Rights Through Reggio Emilia-Inspired Practices in Türkiye: The Quilt-Making Project," examines how children's rights can be realized through project-based learning inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. Through a five-week inquiry project, children explored art, culture, science, community, and environmental issues while actively shaping their own learning experiences.

The publication highlights how contemporary Reggio Emilia-inspired practices can transform children's curiosity into meaningful participation, collaboration, critical thinking, and civic engagement. By showcasing an innovative project conducted in Türkiye, the authors contribute to international discussions on children's rights, democratic education, and high-quality early childhood learning environments.
