SHSU Celebrates Major Milestone in the Future of Health Education
Sam Houston State University celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of its new Health Professions Building in Conroe, marking a significant step forward in advancing health education and workforce development across the region.
University leadership, community partners, faculty, students and local officials gathered to commemorate the occasion and tour the state-of-the-art facility. The event underscored SHSU’s commitment to expanding access to high-quality academic programs that directly support community needs.
“This building represents a deliberate choice. A choice that reflects how healthcare works in the real world,” said University President Alisa White. “Patients do not experience health challenges one discipline at a time. They are whole people, and holistic care happens when professionals from different backgrounds learn how to work together, communicate effectively and see the full picture.”
The Health Professions Building features cutting-edge instructional spaces designed to foster innovation, collaboration and real-world application. From advanced simulation labs to hands-on learning environments, the facility equips students with the skills and experience necessary to excel in today’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
Located next to the university’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, the facility further expands SHSU’s academic footprint in Montgomery County and positions students within a regional home to several major health care systems—creating a collaborative hub where future professionals learn side by side while gaining the skills to work together in real-world settings.
“Here on the Sam Houston Conroe Campus, we have intentionally created an environment where collaboration is the expectation,” White said. “With the College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Health Professions Building and the SHSU Physicians Clinic all within close proximity, students are immersed in a culture where teamwork across disciplines is modeled every day.”
