SamPoly Expands Program Offerings with HVAC, HIT and Real Estate

Sam Houston State University’s Polytechnic College, SamPoly, is expanding its program offerings with the addition of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), health information technology (HIT) and real estate.

As with its other program offerings, SamPoly has developed coursework to meet the needs of the working student. With online and hybrid modalities, the programs are built to be flexible and accessible while also providing opportunities for applied learning.

While adding more programs has always been the plan, the college has been strategic in its selection of certifications to offer. Clayton Cottle, assistant vice president for Operations & Strategic Initiatives, is among the group that has engaged in the planning and execution of SamPoly’s launch which has always centered around accessibility for students of all demographics and meeting workforce demand.

“Our growth strategy is focused on continuing to expand high-demand, workforce-aligned programs while maintaining quality and strong student outcomes,” Cottle said. “That includes developing additional certificates and applied degrees in areas where there is clear employer need, as well as strengthening pathways that allow students to continue their education over time.”

Students who complete any of the college’s programs will have the foundation to enter the field with practical knowledge and credentials that they can build upon at any time. It’s through these stackable credentials that SamPoly graduates can advance their careers through education without putting their lives on pause.

“We work closely with employers and industry partners to ensure our curriculum reflects current workforce needs and create opportunities for students to connect with industry partners,” he said. “Ultimately, our goal is to position SamPoly as a leader in applied, career-focused education in Texas and beyond.”

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC)

The HVAC program will use online and in-person coursework to teach students the technical knowledge and hands-on skills required for in-demand careers in the installation, maintenance and repair of residential HVAC systems. The program emphasizes a strong foundation in mechanical principles, electrical systems, diagnostics and safety standards, equipping graduates of the program with the practical knowledge needed for the field. Built around industry-recognized certifications and a workforce-aligned curriculum, students gain real-world experience through hands-on labs, internships and partnerships with regional employers.
