A proud Huntsville native, Kenneth R. Ross (’80) has built a career defined by service, leadership and an unwavering commitment to giving back. Raised by a mother who emphasized the transformative power of education, Ross excelled both in the classroom and on the athletic field before earning scholarships to attend Sam Houston State University.
At Sam Houston, Ross studied business, became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and developed lifelong friendships and leadership skills that would shape his future. After briefly serving as a police officer with the Huntsville Police Department while completing his degree, he launched a career with State Farm in 1983. His decision to step into the insurance world would lead to more than four decades of remarkable success.
Ross launched his agency in the Greater Houston Area, focused on the communities around FM 1960 in North Houston. Following success in that area and his marriage to Debra J Ross in 2000, the couple moved their blended family, as well as the Ken Ross Agency, to the Galveston County area.
Since the move, Ross established himself as a leading insurance provider with his dedication to remarkable service. His pledge to come to clients, wherever they are, for all of their insurance needs, seven days a week, reflected his commitment to his community.
Throughout his distinguished insurance career, Ross has earned numerous honors, including placement in State Farm’s prestigious Chairman’s Circle and Senior Vice President Club – South Central Market, achievements reserved for the company’s top-performing agents nationwide. He also serves on State Farm’s Agent Advisory Committee and is a State Farm Legion of Honor Agent as well as an Ambassador Travel Agent.
Ross’s impact extends far beyond his profession and into mentorship. Since his time at SHSU, he has remained a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and later became a member of 100 Black Men of America as well as an emeritus member of the historic Houston organization, El Dorado Social Club.
A longtime supporter of SHSU, Ross has served on the board of the SHSU Alumni Association, of which he is a Life Member, for more than 30 years. Ross has also been a longtime supporter Bearkat Athletics and champions endeavors that bolster student success. Through his support of supporting families, first responders, underserved children and community-based initiatives, Ross has built his legacy on service, generosity and leadership.
