Alumni Spotlight: Jennifer Brown – Innovating for the Future

Jennifer BrownJennifer Brown has always been driven by curiosity and ambition, but her journey to becoming an innovator in the world of technology wasn’t one she initially expected.

In August, Brown celebrated a major milestone: earning her Master of Science in Project Management from Sam Houston State University. Now, she’s taken the next step in her career journey, pursuing a certification in AI from SamPoly.

Her decision to pursue graduate studies was sparked by a unique opportunity. While developing a user-focused app, she was invited to present her work at the Texas Business Hall of Fame, where she has proudly represented Sam Houston as a two-time finalist.

“As I prepared for this presentation, my mentor encouraged me to explore AI and automation,” Brown said. “It pushed me to think bigger about how technology could not only improve my app but also impact the way businesses operate.”

That guidance opened the door to a new passion.

Despite having no prior technical background, Brown dove headfirst into the world of artificial intelligence and automation, gaining the skills needed to stay ahead in a rapidly evolving job market.

“I never imagined I’d be working in IT, let alone focusing on AI,” she said. “But I’ve found a space where I’m not only growing, I’m needed. I’m no longer on the sidelines; I’m part of the future.”

Brown’s path wasn’t without obstacles. Coming from a nontechnical background, she initially felt intimidated by the complexity of the material.

“One of my biggest challenges was overcoming the fear of not understanding technical concepts,” she said. “But my professors and the SamPoly staff have been incredibly supportive. My professor, in particular, went above and beyond, meeting with me regularly and providing resources like videos and Zoom sessions to help me succeed.”

That support helped Brown build confidence and gain hands-on knowledge that she now applies directly to her professional projects.

With her degree and growing expertise in AI and automation, Brown’s ultimate goal is to stand out in a competitive workforce while helping companies streamline workflows and reduce outsourcing risks.

“The skills I’ve gained at SamPoly are highly transferable across industries,” she said. “I’m excited to continue exploring how technology can transform the way we work and live.”

As she prepares for her next presentation at the Texas Business Hall of Fame, Brown serves as an example of how SHSU empowers its students and alumni to embrace innovation and lead with purpose.
