The Global Center for Journalism and Democracy is proud to announce a new partnership with The Global Press Institute (GPI). GCJD and GPI have teamed up to bring original content and news stories from developing countries to the screens of any GCJD website visitor. Simply by clicking the “news” icon found on the Global Center homepage, viewers will have access to feature-length stories from around the world.

GPI, an award-winning social venture, uses journalism as a development tool to employ and empower women in developing countries to produce local news coverage of local topics that are usually not covered by the global press.  Since beginning operations in 2006, GPI has trained and employed 135 women in 26 developing countries.

GPI will provide original content to GCJD that will allow viewers to educate themselves on alternative, important topics. Through this partnership, professional journalists as well as students can access cutting edge stories from countries that don’t typically make the headlines in the U.S.

GPI will also provide raw data to GCJD. The Global Center will make this data available to SHSU students to use along with their own research to create meaningful and impactful stories. By providing this additional resource GCJD furthers our mission of educating the next generation of thought leaders, and though our partnership with GPI, we are supporting social activists across the globe. This alliance will not only further the mission of GPI by spreading the word of their journalists to a bigger audience, but it will enrich the possibilities for our students to report on unique and challenging stories that impact the world.

The Global Center continuously searches for impactful global organizations to partner with in order to continue our support of social entrepreneurship and an independent and vibrant global press.
