GCJD Celebrates New Space

GCJD Celebrates New Space

The Center spent its first birthday moving into a beautiful new space in the Dan Rather Communications Building.

SHSU Provost, Jaimie Hebert, who was instrumental in providing support for the Center, commented, “The Center incorporates many of our ongoing missions as an institution: service, promoting democracy, community engagement, and of course providing academic opportunities for students and faculty that simply cannot be offered within the traditional curriculum. The University decided to invest in this effort, including providing a prominent location on campus, for these reasons. We want to showcase efforts such as these and make them available for students, faculty, and the public. It is truly a University-wide Center that will have a positive impact internally and make a difference in the community at large.”

GCJD hosted an open house to celebrate the move, and has hired new staff to allow further expansion of our programs. The Center now has two full time staff members, along with Executive Director, Kelli Arena, and is moving ahead with numerous projects for 2014.
