Bio

Although I was born in Vietnam, I have lived in Texas most of my life. My journey as a refugee sparked my curiosity about people and the social forces that shape our lives, leading me to sociology, where I focus on race, inequality, and family.
I teach courses in race and ethnicity, social inequality, and marriage and the family. My classes are engaging and grounded in real-life experiences, emphasizing marketable skills such as oratory, problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking. I am also a TEDx speaker, sharing insights on trauma and mental health.
Guided by the Sam Houston State University motto, “The measure of a life is its service,” I am committed to helping individuals and communities heal from past trauma. I am especially passionate about bringing the Mood Meter into everyday life as a concrete tool to strengthen communication and emotional intelligence, and I am a certified Mental Health First Aid trainer.
Beyond teaching, I enjoy reading, exploring the outdoors, and traveling.
