Student Affairs Scholarships

To apply for any of the scholarships listed below, interested applicants must utilize the SHSU streamlined application, Scholarships4Kats. (Please note: certain scholarships for which you wish to apply may not appear on the Scholarship4Kats page. However, if you meet the requirements for that scholarship, you will be automatically matched to that scholarship.)

Student Affairs

NANCY GAERTNER PERFORMING ARTS ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP: $2,000 will be announced in the spring, and disbursed the following academic year (half in the fall and the remaining half in the spring semester.) Recipients must (1) be a full-time undergraduate in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University and majoring in any program within the Department of Theatre and dance and/or the School of Music; and (2) maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.50. Financial need will be a consideration, but not a determining factor. The scholarship is a one-year award. A recipient may receive this scholarship in subsequent years, but must reapply to be reconsidered.

STUDENT AFFAIRS GENERATION & STUDENT EMPLOYEE SCHOLARSHIP: was established in October 2015. Each academic year, a Scholarship Committee will select, and award one or more $1,000 (minimum) scholarships. The recipients are selected based on the following criteria: (1) Full-time undergraduate student in good standing and enrolled at SHSU, (2) Major in any discipline, (3) Must be a natural, step, or adopted child or grandchild of a currently employed staff member from the Division of Student Affairs, (4) Or be a student assistant employed by the Division of Student Affairs, (5) Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5, with more consideration given to applicants with a higher overall GPA, (6) Must have completed at least 15 semester credit hours at SHSU, and (7) Employed full or part-time, and/or involved in community service and/or be active in an on-campus organization.

Qualified applicants can begin applying for the next academic year beginning on September 1st. The deadline to apply is February 15th.

Dean of Students' Office

ORANGE KEYS: This scholarship is awarded to current students who have applied and been accepted into the program. Students who have been accepted will receive a $650 each semester. To qualify for membership, you must have a 3.0 SHSU GPA, must have completed 2 long semesters at SHSU, and must submit a completed application, letters of recommendation, unofficial transcript, and class schedule to the Dean of Students’ Office by the application deadline. Upon review of the application, applicants will be selected for an in-person interview. If offered membership in the program students must be able to serve one full academic year and maintain a 3.0 SHSU GPA to maintain scholarship eligibility. Other qualifications apply. FRESHMEN LEADERSHIP PROGRAM: This scholarship is awarded to current students who have applied and been accepted into the program. Students who have been accepted into the program will receive $1,000 scholarship during their year in the program. Scholarship is contingent upon acceptance and participation in the program. This program is available to incoming first-year students who must submit an application meeting the minimum qualifications and be selected after an interview process. MARY LYNN DESHAZO ALPHA LAMBDA DELTA SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is awarded to current students who have accepted membership in Alpha Lambda Delta.  The awarded students will receive $1,000 for the academic year.  Qualifications and instructions on how to apply can be found atwww.shsu.edu/ald.  Please call 936-294-2714 or email engage@shsu.edu for questions or additional information. 

SHSU PARENTS' ASSOCIATION ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP: Students whose parents are members of the SHSU Parents’ Association are eligible for this scholarship. Four awarded students will receive a $1,000, each for the following academic year. Qualification and instructions on how to apply can be found shsu.edu/SHSUPA. Student Acitivities

ANNE GIBBS AWARD: $250 per long semester. Must be currently enrolled female SHSU sophomore, junior or senior student and in good academic standing. Applicants must be nominated by a member of a Greek sorority.

ERIC SULLINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: $500 per long semester. Must be currently enrolled male SHSU student and in good academic standing. Must demonstrate financial need. Must uphold outstanding qualities as a male student.

LIBBY BRITT-PHILO/ZETA TAU ALPHA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: $200 annually. Must be a junior or senior member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and living in the ZTA sorority house. Must demonstrate financial need.

ORANGE PRIDE: $500 per long semester. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA and be a full-time student. Tryouts for the team are held in May and June.

SHSU CHEERLEADERS: amount ranges from $0 to $2000 per long semester. Must maintain a 2.0 GPA and be a full-time student. Tryouts for the team are held in May. SHSU MASCOTS: amount ranges from $0 to $2000 per long semester. Must maintain a 2.0 GPA and be a full-time student. Tryouts for the mascots are held in May.

RECREATIONAL SPORTS

MIKE MAHON MEMORIAL RUGBY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 per year. Must be a full-time junior or senior student in good standing, major in any discipline, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 and be a member of the SHSU Rugby Team. Application deadline is February 15, 2023.

SHSU RUGBY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 per year. Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good standing, major in any discipline, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 and be a member of the SHSU Rugby Team. Application deadline is February 15, 2023.
