Employee Perks and Discounts:

Tuition Assistance Program: This tuition reduction is for full-time (1.0 FTE) benefits eligible staff and faculty employees, through the rank of Assistant Professor, who desire to take a class at SHSU. The applicants must have a minimum of one year full-time continuous employment at SHSU and have earned at least 3 semester hours at SHSU with a minimum 2.0 GPA.

Free Passport Photos: The Bearkat OneCard Office offers passport photos as a FREE service to all students, faculty, and staff at SHSU. In order to get your passport or scholarship photo made, just bring your Bearkat OneCard to the Bearkat OneCard Services Office located in the Estill Building, Suite 103.

Wellness Program: The Wellness Program offers comprehensive programming for the Bearkat community, including programs developed for staff members. Programs include Group Fitness Classes, Personal Fitness Training, Wellness Workshops, Nutritional Counseling, Massage Therapy, state of the art weight room and cardio equipment. Schedules can be found on the Recreational Sports Website.

Barnes & Noble University Bookstore Discount and Check Cashing Service: Barnes & Noble’s University Bookstore offers staff a 10% discount on all logo merchandise available at the bookstore and provides a check cashing service as an added convenience to SHSU faculty, staff, and students. In order to cash a personal check, a valid driver's license, SHSU Student or Faculty ID, passport, or military ID is required. All checks must have the check writer’s name, address, and phone on the check, preferably a local address and phone number. SHSU faculty, staff, and students may cash a check in the bookstore, up to $50.00, without a purchase, once a week. The bookstore does not accept two-party checks.

Dell and Apple Computer Equipment Discount (for personal use): The SHSU Computer Services Department offers links to Dell and Apple Websites as a service to staff interested in purchasing computer equipment for personal use at discounted prices. Look for the Dell and Apple logos on the IT@Sam Website. If you have any questions about the program, please contact the IT@Sam Service Desk at (936) 294-1950 or e-mail servicedesk@shsu.edu.

Bearkat OneCard Debit Account: The OneAccount is offered to you with no monthly fee and minimum balance requirement. When you deposit funds to the OneAccount, your Bearkat OneCard can be used as a Debit MasterCard®. Your OneAccount gives you the convenience of a universally accepted debit card with the budgeting control of an FDIC insured checking account - you will no longer need to carry cash. For information and detailed instructions on activating the OneAccount, please contact the Bearkat OneCard Office at (936) 294-CARD (2273).

Employee Discount Program: Sam Houston State University has partnered with PerksCard (Powered by PerksConnect) to provide SHSU employees, retirees, and their families with an employee discount program! The PerksCard program is a lifestyle product and service discount savings program enabling employees, retirees, and their families to find great deals on items and services they need and use every day. PerksCard users have access to local discounts, national retailer discounts, discounted gift cards, daily deals and more.

Employee Assistance Program: All Sam Houston State University faculty, staff, and family members have free access to the University of Texas Employee Assistance Program (UTEAP). The UTEAP is a program specifically designed to assist SHSU employees in times of need and is available to all faculty, staff, and family members regardless of whether you participate in the ERS health insurance plan or not.
