WELLNESS

Living with others can put you at higher risk of getting sick. SHSU does not have alternative housing available for you or your roommate while either of you are compromised by short-term illness (examples are Cold/Flu, COVID, Measles, etc). Therefore, it is essential that you have a plan should you need to isolate or quarantine from others.

Most of our on-campus students live within a few hours from home. If your illness requires isolation or quarantine, you might consider going home (or to a close relative’s house) until the illness passes. Make sure to email your professors for classwork instructions.

Other things you can do to prepare include:

→ Staying ahead of school work. Working ahead may decrease your overall stress when you are feeling ill.

→ Pre-stock over-the-counter meds. Doing this will ensure you have what you need when you need it. Hydrate, eat right, get enough exercise and sleep. Not enough can be said about a healthy lifestyle to ward off illness.

→ Keep your room tidy. It may seem like a small thing, but staying organized reduces stress when you are under the weather.
