Diplomas are mailed to the permanent legal address on record (check your permanent legal address) approximately 8 weeks after commencement; however, students should confirm address information prior to the last day of the term in order to ensure diplomas are mailed to the correct address. A final evaluation of the students' academic records will determine whether a degree is posted and diplomas mailed. December graduates should expect a longer delay receiving their diplomas in the mail due to the holiday break.
- Degree requirements must be completed in the term for which application has been made in order to have a degree posted and a diploma printed for that term/year, along with the submission of the Application for Degree prior to the commencement date. Students not completing degree requirements by the ending date of the term must submit a new Application for Degree for the future term in which degree requirements are completed.
- Graduates with outstanding debts will not be permitted to receive their diplomas until the debt is paid in full. Graduates must notify the Registrar's Office when that debt has been paid in order to have the diploma placed in the mail.
- It is the responsibility of the graduating student to maintain an updated permanent legal address on their record. Students whose diplomas are returned to the Registrar's Office by the U.S. Postal Service for "incorrect address" will be required to pay a $7.50 mailing fee in order to have their diplomas mailed to a new address which must be provided in writing to the Registrar's office.
Diplomas (Effective with the May 2003 graduates): A Sam Houston State University diploma will be printed on 11 X 14 paper. The name to appear on the diploma will be the name as it appears on the official student academic record.
Duplicate diplomas may be ordered through the Registrar's Office by mailing the Duplicate Diploma form along with payment to: Office of the Registrar Box 2029 Huntsville, TX 77341-2029. The Registrar's Office will no longer accept duplicate diploma orders in-person. The charge for a duplicate diploma will be $50.00. Please allow a minimum of 2 weeks for processing.
