  • Getting Your Building and Office Keys

    Please talk to your supervisor or department head to get keys ordered. Once keys are ordered, you may have to pick them up at Facilities Management.  You can monitor the status of your keys by logging into

  • Parking on Campus

    Huntsville Main Campus ePermits, University Plaza ePermits and The Woodlands Center ePermits are available for purchase at Please go to to view available waitlists, purchase parking, and manage your account.  If you choose to visit the office, please bring with you the following information:

    1.  Your MySam ID

    2.  Vehicle registration information to include make, model, color, year and state license plate number.

    3.  Disabled Persons should bring their state issued placard, and license plate information in addition to the above listed information. 

  • Getting Your Bearkat One Card

    The Bearkat OneCard is the official ID of Sam Houston State University. The Bearkat OneCard signifies your status as an active member of the Sam Houston State University community, serving as your official identification card and much more. You may request your Bearkat OneCard in person or online. A valid government or state issued photo ID is required in order to request your Bearkat OneCard.

  • Getting Started With Your Talent Management Trainings

    New Hire [New Hire Training Matrix] and compliance training for all employees is administered through Talent Management .In addition, employees can register for instructor led trainings such as Photoshop, Word, and Banner Finance 101 through Talent Management.

    Talent Management provides both staff and faculty the ability to maintain training transcripts in one centralized location. Talent Management organizes and centrally locates access to the Academies’ curriculum. External training can be recorded in Talent Management, and managers can assign training to their direct reports through the system as well. Once training is complete, users can print out their own certificates of completion for their files.

    NOTE: The Talent Management system is optimized to work with Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Chrome for Macs, or Safari web browsers. Please do not use other web browsers as you may receive unexpected results.

  • Getting Your SHSU User Account and Email Set Up

    Information Technology (IT) department, IT@Sam, will send you an email to the email address you provided on your application. The IT department email will help you set up your SHSU user account. You will create a password that goes with your new username (the letters and numbers in front of the in your new work email account).

    Your SHSU mail account should be configured to Outlook the first time you open it on a campus machine. If you work off campus or it does not load automatically, click the below link and follow the provided steps:

  • Staff Annual Performance Appraisals

    April 1st marks the beginning of the Staff Employee Annual Performance Appraisal (APA) process.  During this process, staff employees who started on or before March 1 of the current year are evaluated for the period from April 1 of the previous year through March 31 of the current year. Supervisors will complete the performance appraisals in Talent Management.

  • Professional Development Opportunities  

    Sam Houston State University offers staff and managers of staff professional development opportunities through The Learning Academies @ SHSU. The Academies, which include Come-for-Coffee, Training University, Management Academy, Leadership at Every Level, and the Skillsoft E-Learning Library, are the next step toward  individual training plans for staff employees. Other opportunities for director level and higher positions, as well as faculty chairs, are available through the Leadership Institute. To learn more about the Staff Professional Development Program and The Learning Academies, click on the links below.

  • Talent Management Instructor Led Training

    Instructor training is required for all users requesting ILT (Instructor Led Training) permission in Talent Management and will teach ILT instructors how to navigate through the system, manage rosters, and create training sessions. Any instructor who wishes to host ILT training in the Talent Management system is required to take the Talent Management Instructor Training course taught by the Professional Development Coordinator before instructor permissions can be granted.

    This training is offered on a by-request basis. To view training availability, search "ILT" in the right-hand search bar through Talent Management. If there is not an event currently scheduled, you may request one by emailing the training team at

  • University Room Reservations - Ad Astra

    Ad astra is the central online calendar for SHSU events and room reservations. Those with the proper approval can use Ad astra to search for events, add events, and reserve rooms. Any events added with Ad astra will be displayed on the Campus Events page.

  • Web CMS

    WebCMS, or Web Content Management System, provides the ability to edit and maintain SHSU department webpages online using a template based management system. Users do not need to know web or programming code in order to use the CMS and will be able to maintain a department website with relative ease. To receive WebCMS access, users must first attend IT's Instructor Led Training. This training can be accessed by searching "WebCMS" in the right-hand search bar in Talent Management.

    The SHSU Women’s Leadership, Engagement, and Development group (We LEAD) will examine issues relevant to women in Higher Education and host professional development and networking opportunities for women employees and their allies. We LEAD will empower women in leadership by fostering a lifelong learning environment through programming and professional development, and work to enhance a culture of service on campus and in the community.     Full-time SHSU faculty/staff are eligible to use all the Rec Sports facilities at no additional cost. A current faculty/staff ID must be presented in order to gain admittance to a facility or activity area.

    All Sam Houston State University faculty, staff and family members have free access to the University of Texas Employee Assistance Program (UTEAP). The UTEAP is a program specifically designed to assist SHSU employees in times of need and is available to all faculty, staff and family members regardless of whether you participate in the ERS health insurance plan or not.

  • Employee Education Assistance Program

    The Employee Education Assistance Program is for full-time benefits-eligible staff and faculty employees, through the rank of Professor, who desire to enroll in university credit courses at SHSU.  Applicants must have a minimum of one year full-time continuous employment at SHSU by the first class day. 

    Undergraduate and graduate participants may take up to nine credit hours per semester. Participants are responsible for the payment of statutory tuition only, with other tuition and fees waived by SHSU.  Waiver is based on successful completion of all coursework (grade of C or better).  Participants are required to repay SHSU the full cost of tuition and fees for course results of less than C or incomplete (please contact the Bursar’s Office for repayment instructions).  Unpaid repayments may be subject to the university’s normal collections activities.  

    Each semester, staff employees seeking release time must submit an Employee Development Participation & Teaching Request Form to their department head for consideration.  Department heads will complete the approval section and retain the form in department files.
