Below is an overview of our application process for faculty and staff positions. This process is in place to make sure all applicants receive fair and equal opportunity. Student hiring is facilitated through Career Services.

Create an account
Job applications are accepted through PeopleAdmin for faculty and staff positions. PeopleAdmin is a software that we use to manage positions. You’ll begin by creating an account. Your account will allow you to:
-
Search Jobs
Find available positions by clicking search on the left navigation and using the filters to narrow down your search.
-
Apply for an available position
Apply for the job by clicking on the ‘Apply to this job’ button. Applications are visible to the hiring department as soon as they are submitted.
-
Screening
Hiring departments review applications for minimum qualifications and rank candidates to determine who they would like to interview. If not selected, you will receive a notification when the position is filled.
-
Interview
If selected for an interview, the hiring department will contact you to schedule. If your interview is in-person, ask the hiring department about parking or visit the parking website at shsu.edu/parking.
Veteran's Preference
If seven or fewer applicants are chosen for an interview, a qualified veteran’s preference applicant from the pool must be interviewed. If more than seven are interviewed, 20% of the number interviewed that are qualified veteran’s preference applicants must be interviewed. Feel free to reach out to our veteran liaison. We also encourage veteran applicants and employees to use our campus Veteran Resource Center.
-

After interviews, if you are a finalist, you will be contacted by Human Resources. You can check on the status of your application online, by logging into your PeopleAdmin account.

Each year, SHSU releases an Annual Security and Fire Safety Report to provide information about local crime statistics, safety policies, and the preventative measures in place to protect our faculty, staff, and students. You can view the report online, download a copy of it, or request a hard copy from the University Police Department. The non-emergency phone number for the University Police Department is 936.294.1800.
Annual Security & Fire Safety ReportBackground Checks
Employment between the University and an individual in a security sensitive position is contingent on successfully passing a criminal background check. The University will conduct criminal background checks for:
- Applicants selected to fill security sensitive positions; and
- Employees selected to transfer or to be promoted to security sensitive positions
All information obtained through a criminal background check is privileged and confidential and will not be released or disclosed to any unauthorized person.
Electronic Work Authorization
Sam Houston State University participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. If E-Verify cannot confirm that you are authorized to work, we are required to give you written instructions and an opportunity to contact Department of Homeland Security (DHS) or Social Security Administration (SSA) so you can begin to resolve the issue before the employer can take any action against you, including terminating your employment.
Employers can only use E-Verify once you have accepted a job offer and completed the Form I-9. For more information on E-Verify, or if you believe that your employer has violated its E-Verify responsibilities, please contact DHS.
