FORWARD Graduation Package

FORWARD graduation packageCongratulations graduating FORWARD seniors! As a FORWARD student, you are eligible to receive a FREE graduation package that includes a complimentary cap, gown and a graduation picture package. Students must submit an application and a 200-300 word essay describing your college experience as a FORWARD student and how this has shaped your life and graduation goals. Attached is the form to fill out for a graduation package award or you can visit the FORWARD office for the application form in AB4, Suite 202 or by email at forward@shsu.edu. Ready Player OneCareer Services will be offering several information panels in early November. They are:

  • Business & Community Relations Panel on Wednesday, November 5th from 3:00 to 4:20 pm in LSC Room 315
  • Public & Governmental Services Panel on Wednesday, November 5th from 3:00 to 4:20 pm in the Criminal Justice Courtroom
  • Education & Social Services Panel on Thursday, November 6th from 11:00 am to 12:20 pm in the College of Education Building
  • STEM & Health Sciences Panel on Thursday, November 6th from 2:00 to 3:20 pm in LSC Room 315.

Student Money Management Center Workshops

Student Money Management CenterThe Student Money Management Center will host three workshops in November including:

  • “Life After Graduation: Student Loan Repayment” on November 11 at 12:30 pm at University Park Campus
  • “Debt Man Walking” on November 19 at 6:00 pm in LSC 315 with pizza and drinks and
  • “Holiday Spending on a Merry Little Budget” on November 12 at 5:30 pm at The Woodlands Center 109.

Study Skills Series 2

Study SkillsThere’s still time to sign up for Study Skills Series 2! These one-hour sessions can help you with procrastination, time management, taking class notes, test-taking strategies and more! Check out their schedule online, and sign up by calling the SAM Center (936) 294-4444, stopping by CHSS 170 or 190, or e-mailing kkg002@shsu.edu or sam_asp@shsu.edu. Don’t have time for the classes? Advising for Spring 2015

The Spring semester is fast approaching! Registration will begin in November, so make sure you go to advising in the SAM Center soon!


Break Housing

FORWARD graduation packageBreak housing is available for students during the Thanksgiving and Winter breaks, and FORWARD students qualify for fee waivers for this housing! To sign up for Thanksgiving Break housing, you MUST sign up at the Residence Life Office by 5:00 pm on Friday, November 14, 2014. The regular cost is $90, and buildings will close Tuesday, November 25 at 10:00 pm and re-open Sunday, November 30, 2014.

To sign up for Winter Break housing, you MUST sign up at the Residence Life Office by 5:00 pm on Friday, December 5, 2014. The cost is $522, and buildings will close Friday, December 12 at 12:00 pm and re-open Saturday, January 10 at 11:00 am. To qualify for the break housing fee waiver, please e-mail Katy Pelton at katypelton@shsu.edu so that she can verify your status.


Project Connect Applications for Spring

You may qualify for Project CONNECT, a Student Support Services program that includes services such as individual tutoring, individual and group peer mentoring, registration assistance, workshops and seminars covering helpful topics, its own computer lab, textbook lending library, and more! To apply for Project CONNECT in the Spring 2015 semester, you must complete an application by Friday, January 30, 2015. Don’t forget to let them know you are a FORWARD student!


ScholarX Travanganza

Need help applying for scholarships? The Student Money Management Center is hosting a ScholarX Travaganza on Thursday, December 4 in the LSC. By filling out one application for ScholarX, you apply to multiple SHSU scholarships! This event will have people to help you with your ScholarX application, and pizza and dessert will be served!
