Financial Aid Options for Graduate Students

  • FAFSA – Free Application for Federal Student Aid: apply at
  • Direct Loans – Unsubsidized
  • State Grants – Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG)
  • Private/Alternative loans – contact the lender of your choice
  • Scholarships – initiated by student

Award Eligibility

  • Graduate Students are eligible for up to $20,500.00 in Direct Loans per year.
  • May not exceed Aggregate Limit - $138,500.
  • State Grants – TPEG (Texas Public Education Grant) must meet priority deadline and have “need”

Eligibility Requirements for State and Federal Financial Aid

  • FAFSA must be successfully received and all missing Financial Aid documents completed
  • Student must be regularly admitted (without condition) to Graduate Program
  • Student must be enrolled in at least half-time (6 hrs)
  • Student must be in compliance with Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy

Conditionally Accepted Students

  • Do not qualify for Federal or State aid until regularly accepted
  • May apply for a private/alternative loan that does not require the student to be in a “degree-seeking program”
  • May contact the Financial Aid Office when regularly accepted to be considered for Federal/State aid
