Intramural Sports

The Intramural Sports Program offers a variety of team and individual activities for members to play in a recreational but competitive atmosphere. Sports are organized into leagues and tournaments to accommodate various levels of interest and skill levels. Flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, pickleball, bowling, and cornhole are just a few of the sports offered, and a full breakdown of leagues can be found below. 

  • Eligibility

    Intramural events are open to currently enrolled SHSU students (one or more hours), who have paid the Rec Fee and current SHSU faculty/staff.

    • Divisions of Play
      1. Open: All eligible participants may participate in Open Leagues. (Formerly Men’s League) 
      1. Women’s: All eligible Female participants may participate in Women’s Leagues. 
      1. Co-Rec: All eligible participants may participate in CoRec Leagues. Some sports may require a minimum number of men and women on a roster in addition to the minimum number of players in order to move their team into a timeslot and play games within CoRec divisions. 
      1. Greek: All eligible participants who are active members or pledges of a Fraternity or Sorority may participate in Greek Leagues. These teams are permitted to have non-Greek members on their roster, but they must be approved by the Fraternity or Sorority that they are playing with. Greek Organizations are required to play under their Greek Letters in order to register in the Greek League and earn points, otherwise they should register their team under the Open League.  
    • Formats Offered

      Single-Day Events: The event format is typically a one-day, single-elimination style tournament. Teams and/or individuals will be seeded completely random in Fusion Play. 
      Multi-Day Tournaments: In the multi-day tournament format, teams will play Round Robin games over multiple days and then be seeded into a single or double elimination bracket (dependent on team registration). 
      Leagues: The league format allows teams to participate in a 4-week regular season, after which all qualifying teams will be included in a single-elimination playoff tournament. Games for the League format will be played Sundays-Thursdays in the evenings (after 5pm).  

    • Location of Events

       All Intramural Sports programming takes place at the Holleman Field Complex, Campus Recreation Center, and Recreation Fields. Some champ nights may be hosted at Johnson Coliseum and Bowers Stadium.

      Become an Official

      The Intramural Sports Program employees over 30 student officials throughout the year. Officials are brought on to officiate flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, and many other monitor sports and events. The best officials for flag football and basketball are chosen to officiate at Regional NIRSA tournaments with a chance of being picked to officiate at NIRSA National Championship tournaments.
