2024 Welcome Week Leader Application


Welcome Week Leaders assist students with the transition to Sam Houston State University by helping incoming students with attending Welcome Week events, encouraging them to engage, involve and connect with fellow Bearkats, and fostering Bearkat spirit.


  • A desire to be part of a team, being competent on campus culture and tradition, and take pride in Sam Houston State University
  • Must have completed 24 credit hours by the start of Fall 2024 and be a full-time student
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Must be in good standing with the university
  • Must be accessible via email, phone, and GroupMe

  • $350 SCHOLARSHIP to be applied towards Fall 2024 (applied to account after September 1, 2024)

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create a welcome and inclusive environment for Incoming and returning students
  • Highly engage new students in welcome week activities
  • Recruit and maintain effective communication with assigned student groups
  • Maintain a high energy level, enthusiasm, and stamina when working long hours
  • Attend mandatory training prior to Welcome Week
  • Complete miscellaneous duties as assigned
