  Three Decades of Excellence: Smith-Hutson Endowed Chair of Banking Celebrates 30 Years

  In 1996, an anonymous $1 million gift planted the seeds of what would become Texas' most distinguished degree-granting banking education program. As the Smith-Hutson Endowed Chair of Banking at Sam Houston State University marks its 30th anniversary, the program stands as a testament to visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to shaping the future of banking. From its inception, the Smith-Hutson Endowment has maintained a dual mission: educating tomorrow's banking professionals while providing educational programs for community bankers.

  Alumni Spotlight: Jennifer Brown – Innovating for the Future

  Jennifer Brown has always been driven by curiosity and ambition, but her journey to becoming an innovator in the world of technology wasn’t one she initially expected. In August, Brown celebrated a major milestone: earning her Master of Science in Project Management from Sam Houston State University. Now, she’s taken the next step in her career journey, pursuing a certification in AI from SamPoly.

  Texas Bankers Hall of Fame to Honor 2026 Inductees

  The Texas Bankers Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the induction of the 2026 honorees at the 13th Annual Texas Bankers Hall of Fame Gala on April 23, 2026, on the campus of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Five iconic bankers, Mark K. Johnson, Michael G. O’Rourke, Rogers Pope, Jr., A. Ford Sasser, III and Marelyn B. Shedd, will be recognized for their achievements and many contributions to their communities and the banking industry.
