HB 900 Compliance & Reporting

This page summarizes how the Sam Houston State University Charter School (Grades K–6) complies with House Bill 900 (READER Act) and the mandatory school library collection development standards. Our latest review shows no titles rated “sexually relevant” or “sexually explicit.”

Overview

HB 900 requires every Texas public school district/charter to adopt a school library collection development policy, provide transparency to parents, and review (and report) any library materials rated as “sexually relevant” by vendors. Materials rated “sexually explicit” may not be purchased or retained.

District Policy

The SHSU Charter School Library Collection Development Policy prohibits harmful and sexually explicit materials, outlines selection and reconsideration processes, and recognizes parents as the primary decision‑makers regarding a student’s access to library materials.

  • Any vendor‑rated “sexually explicit” material is not purchased or retained.
