Prospective Students

Prospective Students

The Department of Theatre and Musical Theatre is strongly committed to creating an environment of equity and inclusivity for all students, and to foster a sense of a community of artists/educators. Students in our department participate in an active, hands-on program based in solid theoretical principles and methodologies. Students take courses in acting; directing; technical theatre; stage makeup; auditioning; voice and speech; and theatre history. Additionally, we offer specialized theatre courses in costume; devising; lighting; set design; stage management; stage combat; performance; playwriting; as well as dramatic theory and criticism. Musical theatre majors also receive instruction in applied voice; musicianship; dance; ensemble and musical theatre history. Those interested in receiving their teacher certification in Texas will take theatre pedagogy courses with outreach elements in public schools. All students are eligible for casting and participation in our production season. We stage 8-10 shows annually which provides wonderful opportunities in performance; leadership; design; stage management; directing; and technical theatre.
