Theatre Studies Interview

Thank you for your interest in auditioning/interviewing for the BFA in Theatre with Emphasis in Theatre Studies at Sam Houston. We're looking forward to receiving your audition/interview and learning more about you. Registration for our 2023-24 audition season will open early September 2023.

LIVE AUDITIONS ON CAMPUS:

Saturday, November 4th, 2023 (for Spring 2024 consideration & Fall 2024 consideration)
Saturday, February 3rd, 2024 (for Fall 2024 consideration)
Saturday, April 6th, 2024 (for Fall 2024 consideration)

RECORDED AUDITION OPTIONS:
APRIL 13th, 2023 (for Fall 2024 consideration)

For ALL auditions, to get started, head to our landing page at GetAcceptd. 

Once your audition/interview Acceptd application has been processed, you will receive a confirmation email with more details regarding the audition. You DO NOT need to have applied and been accepted to the University before auditioning/interviewing. This audition/interview will be your scholarship audition/interview as well so you DO NOT need to participate in a separate scholarship audition/interview.

When submitting your audition materials, you will be asked for the following:

For Recorded Auditions, students need to submit:
- A resume listing your production assignments and work.
- A two-minute long MAX video during which you present at least two of the following items: 
   1. A one-minute long monologue from a play (memorized)
   2. A production book or paperwork for stage management
   3. Dramaturgical research for a play/musical
   4. A highlight of your best design/technical work 
   5. A theatrical research paper the student has written
   6. An original play/scene written by the student
- An additional portfolio submission of any of the following items (it is fine to submit a physical copy of the materials that you presented in your video):
   1. Stage Management paperwork
   2. Dramaturgy
   3. Design Portfolio
   4. Technical Theatre Portfolio
   5. Theatrical Research Paper
   6. An original play/scene written by the student
For Live Auditions, students need to prepare:
- A resume listing your production assignments and work.
- Be prepared to present two of the following:
   1. A one-minute long monologue from a play
   2. A production book or paperwork for stage management
   3. Dramaturgical research for a play/musical
   4. A highlight of your best design/technical work 
   5. A theatrical research paper the student has written
   6. An original play/scene written by the student
- There will also be an interview portion, during which the student will be expected to talk about your process, success, and what you learned through projects you have worked on.

DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIP

We offer a significant amount of department scholarships each year for new students. Your audition/interview for the Theatre and Musical Theatre Program will serve as your department scholarship audition/interview therefore you do not need to participate in the Theatre Scholarship Audition/interview process. Individuals wishing to be considered for a department scholarship should fill out a scholarship application at Scholarships4Kats. Candidates will be notified via email before May 1 regarding department scholarships. 

UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP

You might also consider applying for scholarships through the University. Application deadline for University scholarships is November 1. Apply at Scholarships4Kats.​
