Dr. Anastasi joined the faculty at Sam Houston State University in 2006. He studied psychology at the University of North Texas, the State University of New York at Cortland, and completed his masters and doctoral work in Experimental Cognitive Psychology at the State University of New York at Binghamton. He received his PhD in 1996 and has worked at Francis Marion University (Florence, SC), Arizona State University, and Sam Houston State University. He teaches a broad array of courses including cognition, research methods, history of psychology, introductory psychology, and psychology and the law at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Dr. Anastasi was born in Austin and grew up in the Dallas area, but has also lived in upstate New York, South Carolina, and Arizona. He enjoys spending time with his wonderful wife, Sandy, and his three amazing children, Danielle, Jacob and Cory, as well as several long-term pets. Dr. Anastasi loves all sports (but especially soccer) and has a general affinity to Dallas sports teams (Cowboys, Rangers, Stars), with the exception of the Houston Dynamo.

Dr. Anastasi’s research includes a focus on cognitive psychology with an emphasis on memory and includes various topics such as face recognition biases, illusory/false memories, eyewitness memory, effects of photographs on acceptance of information, and human factors design.

Dr. Anastasi teaches many courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. His primary undergraduate courses are Cognition (PSYC 3337) and Research Methods (PSYC 3401) and his main graduate courses are Advanced Cognition (PSYC 5336), Experimental Design (PSYC 5388), and History & Systems (PSYC 5392). He also teaches History of Psychology (PSYC 3332), Psychology and the Law (PSYC 3383), and Introduction to Psychology (PSYC 1301).
