Political science is among The Princeton Review list of "Top 10 College Majors" due to the "timely, fascinating and perpetually changing" nature of the discipline. Students majoring in political science gain knowledge of the theory, principles, and practice of politics at all levels of government. The faculty in the political science department offer educational instruction that promotes strong critical thinking, clarity of thought, excellent communication capabilities, and sophisticated research skills.

Political science majors have diverse career opportunities in the fields of law, business, government, interest groups, non-profit organizations, public relations, policy institutes and teaching. Students are also offered extensive opportunities for hands-on learning, especially through our internships. In the past, students have completed internships in government offices including the US Congress, the Texas State Legislature, the City of Huntsville, and the NAACP.
