Sports Medicine Fellowship - Huntsville
Sports Medicine Fellowship
Director's Welcome
Thank you for your interest in the Sam Houston Regional Education Consortium Fellowship (ACGME Program Code: 1274812003; NRMP Program Code: TBD). This program has been granted ACGME Initial Accreditation as of May 29, 2025.
In short, this program aims to train physicians to become outstanding sports medicine physicians, no matter what setting they may practice in the future. Fellows will rotate through multiple different practices with different specialists, showcasing the wide variety of the application of Sports Medicine for athletes of all ages and levels. SHREC Sports Medicine Fellowship also seeks to equip our fellows with the skills needed to treat diverse patient populations as they become independent practicing physicians and leaders in their communities. This goal aligns with the mission of Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and the motto of SHSU, “The measure of a Life is its service.”
Huntsville Memorial Hospital is a Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ)-accredited, not-for-profit 98-bed acute care community hospital delivering high-quality medical care to the residents of Walker County and its surrounding communities since 1927. The HMH Rural Health Clinic, HMH Family Medicine Residency Clinic, HMH Orthopedic Clinic, HMH Center for Rehabilitation, and Sports Medicine all share a suite of offices, allowing patients to have access to multiple disciplines under one roof. It also has an in-house laboratory, x-ray, and ultrasound for diagnosis and guidance during procedures.
Fellows will also serve as assistant team physicians for Sam Houston's 16 NCAA Division I sports, local high schools, and other athletic competitions.
If you would like more information about this fellowship, please email alb144@shsu.edu.
Again, I sincerely thank you for your interest in our program.
