Accreditation

SHSU-COM received full accreditation status from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) in April of 2024. SHSU-COM was awarded 'Accreditation with Exceptional Outcome' which provides 10 years of accreditation and is the highest status that can be achieved.  For more information on COCA accreditation or to file a complaint with the accrediting body, please visit https://osteopathic.org/accreditation/

SHSU-COM’s Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program was reviewed and approved by the following entities:

  • The Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) – the AOA’s accreditation body as codified in 34 CFR §602, ensuring that all COMs have met or exceed the Commission’s Standards for educational quality;
  • The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) – the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states; and
  • The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board – a Texas agency that oversees all public post-secondary education in the state.

Student Outcomes

As required by COCA Standards, the following table lists the COMLEX-USA (aka, “the boards”) first time pass rates and residency match rates by graduation cohort.

SHSU-COM Cohort COMLEX-USA Pass Rate * Match Results
Graduation Year Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 ‡ Main and Military Match Day Total Placement in Texas in Primary Care † Placement Locations/Specialties
2024 97.1% 97.1% 100% 91% 99% 100% 58% 62% Report
2025 99.0% 95% 99% 99% 55% 56% Report
2026
2027
2028

Note: While Level 1 and Level 2 pass rates are tied to student progression, Level 3 pass rates are reported by the NBOME based on the calendar year in which the exam is taken. Because students take Level 3 during residency at varying times post graduation, Level 3 results listed below are aligned to the most closely associated graduation cohort for reporting purposes.

* First-time scores.
† FM, IM, Ob/Gyn, and Pediatrics.
‡ Level 3 results are reported by calendar year and may include graduates from multiple cohorts. As a result, Level 3 data is aligned with the most appropriate cohort for tracking and may not reflect a single graduating class.
