About

Professor Gaston joined SHSU in 2021. He is an accomplished media and broadcast pioneer with a focus on education and turnkey project management solutions that produce innovation for integration from concept to creation. He is a bilingual English/Spanish professional with an extensive international resume, references and portfolio, that thrives on collaboration, strategy and performance. His teaching style is a simple, direct, honest, respectful, common-sense approach with clearly communicated goals and deadlines that maintain organization while getting the work done. Skilled at creating a working environment that brings out the best in everyone, ultimately leading to higher quality, enhanced educational opportunities and increased learning results. Professor Gaston is bilingual with fluency in English & Spanish.

Experience

Professor Gaston has been in the television production business for over thirty years. He owns a production company with a studio in downtown Houston that provides bespoke video and technology solutions for clients from across the globe including every broadcast station in Houston (English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc.), every national network, the Houston Independent School District, Trinity Independent School District, Alvin Independent School District, NBC, ABC, CBS, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Fox News Channel, Fox Business News, CNN, MSNBC, Sky News, Al Jazeera, Revolt Media, America Online, Price Waterhouse Cooper, Hearst Corporation, NFL, NBA, MLB, Houston Chronicle, The Houston Grand Opera, and the City of Houston, among others.

Before starting his own production company, Professor Gaston served in numerous international capacities including Oil & Gas Director of Business Administration for the Western Hemisphere for Petroleum Geo-Services, in Houston, Texas, and Assistant Marketing Director, Latin America, for Johnson & Johnson, in Mexico City, Mexico.

Television Productions, Studio Productions, Multi-Cam Productions, Remote/Field Productions, Live Broadcasting, Live Events and Live Streaming.

Research Interests

Professor Gaston is focused on enhancing remote learning opportunities for American Higher Educational Institutions (HEI’s) by integrating live streaming and broadcasting technologies with university classrooms.

Awards, Activities, Honors:

The Gaston family are Texas Media Legends. Known for founding the Press Club of Amarillo, Texas, co-founding the Texas Public Relations Association (now part of the PRSA), founding the international industry of Broadcast News Monitoring, founding the world’s first Public Library for Broadcast News, founding the digital video infrastructure for the Houston Chronicle’s website “chron.com”, helping launch KTRK’s website “abc13.com”, producing Houston’s first live broadcasting onto downtown buildings, producing the Houston Grand Opera’s first live performance broadcast from the Wortham Center, and much, much more.
