Lead in Service to Others in Victim Studies

Sam Houston State University’s Bachelor of Arts in Victim Studies offers a multidisciplinary education that combines liberal arts with criminal justice, psychology, and sociology. This unique program prepares students to support victims of crime through a deep understanding of trauma, crisis intervention, and advocacy. With courses focused on criminal justice, victimology and crisis intervention, students develop the skills needed to work in diverse professional settings. The degree emphasizes cultural awareness and ethical service, making graduates well-suited for roles in victim services, nonprofit organizations, public policy, or community outreach focused on healing and justice.

Sam Houston State University’s Bachelor of Science in Victim Studies is the first of its kind in the nation. The program features courses in criminal justice, victimology and problem analysis to prepare students for careers helping victims of crime. The program offers specialized training in trauma response, crisis intervention, victim advocacy, and victim service delivery. Students gain a deep understanding of victimization across populations and systems. With opportunities for hands-on experience and expert faculty support, graduates are prepared for roles in social services, law enforcement, non-profits, or government agencies focused on supporting victims and advancing justice. 

What’s the Difference Between the Two Degrees?

The Bachelor of Science requires additional hours of a social science (e.g., psychology, sociology, political science, communication studies, etc.), whereas the Bachelor of Arts requires additional hours of a foreign language (e.g., Spanish, French, American Sign, etc.).
