The BFA in Theatre is a pre-professional degree that prepares students for careers in performance, design, production, and teaching. Students choose from four emphasis options: Acting and Directing, Design and Technology, Theatre Studies, or Teaching Certification. Each path offers immersive training in the art and craft of theatre, guided by expert faculty. Students gain valuable experience through coursework and participation in departmental productions. How Do I Get Into the BFA in Theatre?

Admission to the BFA in Theatre requires an audition or interview, depending on your chosen emphasis. Acting and Directing applicants audition, while students pursuing Design and Technology, Theatre Studies, or Teaching Certification complete an interview. Admission to the program is contingent upon acceptance to SHSU. Details and requirements for each emphasis are available on the department website.

What Emphasis Options Can I Choose From?

The BFA in Theatre offers four emphasis areas: Acting and Directing, Design and Technology, Theatre Studies, and Teaching Certification. Each emphasis allows students to focus their training based on career goals—whether performing, working behind the scenes, developing a broad foundation in theatre, or preparing to teach. Faculty and advisors help guide students in selecting the best fit.
