Change the World
Students majoring in political science study the theory, principles, and practice of politics at all levels of government.
The faculty in the political science department offer award-winning instruction that promotes strong critical thinking, clarity of thought, excellent communication, and sophisticated research skills – an excellent foundation for career opportunities in the fields of law, business, government, interest group advocacy, non-profit management, public relations, policy making, and teaching.
SHSU’s Department of Political Science is home to BS and BA programs as well as minors in political science, public administration and public policy, and legal studies. In addition, we offer students opportunities to become more engaged through Model United Nations, internships, study abroad programs, and involvement with the Center for Law, Engagement, and Politics (LEAP).
What’s the Difference Between the Two Degrees?
The Bachelor of Science (BS) requires additional hours of a social science (e.g., psychology, sociology, political science, communication studies, etc.), whereas the Bachelor of Arts (BA) requires additional hours of a foreign language (e.g., Spanish, French, American Sign, etc.).
Where and How Is This Program Available?
Both the BA and BS programs in Political Science are offered in person on our Huntsville campus or online. The online option allows you to complete your four-year degree with flexibility.
