Create. Perform. Inspire.

A degree in music at SHSU helps you grow as both an artist and a scholar. Through performance, composition, and classroom study, you’ll build strong musicianship, explore your creative voice, and prepare for a variety of careers in music and beyond—all with the support of dedicated, accomplished faculty.

How Do I Get Into the Music Program?

All music majors must first be accepted to SHSU and then complete a successful audition for entrance into the School of Music. Auditions are required for all music majors to assess their musical ability and preparation for college-level study. Audition requirements vary by instrument, voice, or concentration; details are available on the School of Music website.

What’s the Difference Between the BA and BM in Music?

The BA in Music offers a broader, more flexible curriculum designed for students who want to combine music study with another academic interest. It requires a minor and foreign language. The BM is more specialized and structured, with professional training in performance, composition, or music education.
