Empower Readers. Lead Literacy. Transform Learning.

Sam Houston State University’s Master of Education in Literacy Instruction equips educators with advanced skills to address literacy challenges across diverse learning environments. Through a blend of literacy assessment, instruction, and theory, this program prepares graduates to become literacy specialists, advocates, and leaders in schools, homeschool settings, and private practice. The program also embeds the SHSU Dyslexia Certificate, providing specialized expertise in supporting students with reading differences. For those seeking leadership roles, the Reading Specialist Certification option enhances qualifications for guiding literacy programs and interventions.

Two Degree Options for Flexibility

Choose between the M.Ed. with Reading Specialist Certification (for Texas-certified teachers completing fieldwork in TEA-approved locations) or the M.Ed. without certification (ideal for educators outside Texas, private schools, or private practice).

Embedded Dyslexia Certification

The SHSU Dyslexia Certificate is built into the program, offering additional specialization to support students with reading differences.
