Studio-Focused. Career-Ready
The BFA in Graphic Design at SHSU prepares students for creative careers through intensive studio training and real-world design experience. You’ll take courses in typography, branding, layout, digital media, and visual systems while building a competitive portfolio. Faculty mentors and project-based learning connect you to the expectations of today’s design industry. With a focus on concept development and technical skills, graduates leave prepared to lead in agencies, studios, and in-house design teams across a wide range of industries.
How Do I Get Into the Graphic Design Program?
To pursue the BFA in Graphic Design, students must first be admitted to the Department of Art through a portfolio submission. After passing the BFA Portfolio Review, students who wish to enter the Graphic Design program must complete the Graphic Design Portfolio Review during the same semester they are enrolled in Typography (ARTS 3322). Admission is competitive and based on artistic skill, conceptual strength, and technical ability.
What technology will I need for this program?
All art majors must have a personal Mac laptop that meets department specifications. Your laptop is your digital studio, giving you access to creative tools anytime, anywhere. SHSU offers an Apple Purchase Program to help reduce costs, and students who qualify for financial aid may be eligible for additional assistance.
