Make a Difference with a degree in Education

A bachelor’s degree in education prepares students for Texas Teacher Certification and work as a teacher in the classroom. Students choose their certification track based on their chosen grade level and/or the subject area they plan to teach. Our accelerated advanced degree program, 4+1, allows students to jumpstart their career by completing a master’s degree alongside their bachelor’s. In place of traditional student teaching, most students take part in our Yearlong Clinical Teaching experience. Many partner districts offer competitive paid internships that provide both mentorship and valuable classroom experience.

Student teaching is an important part of your preparation for your own classroom. Our Yearlong Clinical Teaching experience bridges the gap between theory and practice. With a full year of hands-on field experience, professional development, and support from mentors, you will be thoroughly prepared for your first teaching position.

What do you want to teach?

We offer several certification tracks for students to choose from. Your certification track will determine your specific course of study and prepare you for certification testing at the end of your program. Choose the age group you want to work with (PreK-3rd grade, Early childhood – 6th grade, 4th-8th grade, or high school), or choose a subject you are passionate about and select from the offered tracks. Some tracks require a double-major; others require you to major in your chosen field with teacher certification. Each program is carefully designed to help you succeed in your own classroom.

Additional certifications can be added to your degree program to help you reach your goals. Many school districts offer additional pay for teachers certified in high-need areas such as special education and bilingual education.

Where and How Is This Program Available?

The Education degree is offered at the main campus in Huntsville, with many classes also available at The Woodlands Center. Enrollment is open for the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
