Learn Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education certificate is for professionals who work in public and private schools as teachers, administrators, or support professionals and wish to increase their proficiency in early childhood education. While it does not lead to teacher certification, this Certificate can be used as an area of emphasis in some M.Ed. programs within the College of Education.

This certificate will benefit professionals who work in public and private schools as teachers, administrators, or support professionals and wish to increase their proficiency in early childhood education. 

Where and How Is This Program Available?

Most of the courses in the program are online.  Occasionally, a face-to-face course may be offered at The Woodlands Center.

Best Practices in Early Child Education

​​The course work in this certificate program builds competence in early childhood education. Learn about child development and best practices, teaching methods for young children and families, and how to assess young children. Also build communication skills and how to navigate community and family relations around the challenges of early childhood education.​

  • ​​Work toward a M.Ed.​

    This Certificate can be used as an area of emphasis in many M.Ed programs within the College of Education.  

  • Broad Coursework

    ​​With seven courses to choose from, select the concentration that works with your interests and professional goals. Choose from programs such as Development of the Young Child, Language and Literacy Development in the Young Child, and Curriculum Development.​ 

  • Build Assessment Skills

    ​​Learn to properly assess young children within the context of Early Childhood Education to assist children, families, and child stakeholders in setting a course for success for young learners.​
