Become a Clinical Mental Health Counselor
Students will gain the necessary academic preparation to pursue licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas. Students receive complete and broad-based training which prepares them to work with diverse clients in community mental health centers, community agencies, psychiatric facilities, and private practice. Specifically, students learn the knowledge and skills to treat clients who struggle with issues from adjusting to everyday life to serious mental health issues and concerns. At the end of the 60-credit-hour program, students receive a Master of Arts in Counseling.

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is accredited by the Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

This program is offered in a combination of online and in person courses at our campus and teaching clinics in Huntsville and in The Woodlands.

Our faculty has extensive clinical experience. Under their broad and extensive training, students will be prepared to work with diverse clients, from individuals looking to understand the deeper motivations for their behavior and emotions and those struggling to adjust or thrive in everyday life, to more serious mental health concerns that deeply impact safety or quality of life.

Emphasis Options
Students interested in the treatment of children may complete play therapy electives and/or pursue the graduate certificate in Play Therapy. Those interested in gaining specific training in working with couples and families may complete marriage, couples, and family counseling (MCFC) electives and/or pursue a graduate certificate in MCF. Our Trauma Center promotes trauma-related research, training, and consultation.

Accreditation
The Clinical Mental Health Counseling is accredited by the Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). At the end of the 60-credit-hour program, students receive a Master of Arts degree.
