Choose the Research Path That Fits Your Goals

The Master of Science in Biology is a thesis-based, research-driven program designed for students pursuing careers in academia, research, or professional biology fields. Students can specialize in one of several areas of biology, from cell and molecular biology, genetics, and microbiology to ecology, parasitology, and animal behavior. Two degree plans are available: Plan 1, a 30-hour biology-focused track with a thesis, and Plan 2, a 39-hour option that combines biology with 12 hours in a supporting field. Both paths prepare students for doctoral study or advanced professional work in science, education, or government.

Graduate students in the M.S. Biology program gain hands-on research experience through SHSU’s modern laboratories, field facilities, and active faculty mentorship.
