Welcome to the website for The Measure: A Journal of Undergraduate Research, an annual journal that publishes the best research by undergraduate students from courses in Sam Houston’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, in both print and digital formats.
Current SHSU students may submit original, research-based work created as part of a course, an independent study, honors contract, or special project from any of the departments within the college:
The Measure publishes scholarly, research-based or theoretical papers, and posters with a critical introduction.
The Measure does not publish creative work (short stories, art) or editorial-opinion based writing.
Submitted work must be previously unpublished, and should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Submissions must be the student’s original work.
Students do not need to be majors within the college in order to submit, but the research project must have been completed as part of a CHSS class. Research completed in other colleges is not eligible. Interdisciplinary projects involving research from another college and research from CHSS will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
