Honors College Facilities

Choosing a college is an important decision. We invite you to come and see for yourself why The Elliott T. Bowers Honors College may very well be your best choice. A visit will help you better understand our program, the curriculum, the benefits, and the exhilarating opportunities available to you. You can see our magnificent campus, The Honors College Lab, Study Lounge, and Study Room. Even better, you will have a chance to meet our faculty and staff and discuss your interests and goals and probe deeper into the Honors application process.

Honors College Lab

The lab includes both PC and Mac computers, a printer (with ink and paper supplied by the Honors College Office), and other supplies. The lab overlooks the CHSS building and the soon to be completed state-of-the-art Biology building. The Honors College Lab is available exclusively for Honors students via an access code provided upon acceptance. 

Honors College Lounge

The lounge includes a whiteboard, conference table, comfortable seating, a small dining area, a refrigerator and microwave, and a coffee bar for students. The lounge is located near the lab so students can study where they feel most comfortable. The Honors College Lounge is available exclusively for Honors students via an access code provided upon acceptance. 

Honors College Study Room

The study room is located in the Newton Gresham Library on the fourth floor. The study room includes a conference table, chalkboard, and the exclusive Adams reading collection. The Newton Gresham Library also has a computer lab, copy room, and a Starbucks. The Honors College Study Room is available exclusively for Honors and Graduate students via an access code provided by the NGL Reference Desk.

One-on-One Visit with the Elliott T. Bowers Honors College Staff

Prospective students and their families are more than welcome to schedule an individual visit with the Honors College Dean or an Honors College Advisor. A meeting with our staff can provide you with more insight into the admission process and with the opportunity to learn more about The Elliott T. Bowers Honors College. To visit, it is preferable to make an appointment to ensure the availability of staff and to avoid busy dates. Appointments are available Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 4:30, year-round with the exception of campus holidays. If you want to schedule an appointment, contact the Honors College Office by phone (936-294-1477) or email honors@shsu.edu.

While on campus, you may also want to attend an SHSU Campus Tour and/or on-campus housing tour with the VISITORS CENTER.
