Apply to Honors

Students may submit applications to the Honors College at any time throughout the year. Most late applications with all supporting documents will be considered automatically for the following semester. Students are encouraged to apply early to take advantage of advanced registration privileges each fall and spring semester. Students must be full-time SHSU students and be enrolled in face-to-face courses

Important Deadlines

  • Applications for fall admittance for first-time freshmen are due by March 31st
  • Applications for fall admittance for current and transfer students are due by May 1st
    • Fall Application Deadline EXTENDED to Friday, May 31st!
  • Applications for spring admittance are due by November 30th

Incoming Freshman

To apply for admission to the Honors College, incoming freshmen students must submit the following:

  1. APPLY ONLINE
  2. Official transcript from your high school.
  3. Two letters of recommendation from high school academic instructors with current knowledge of your academic performance and motivation. (You are more than welcome to send in additional letters from non-academic instructors but the above two are mandatory.)
  4. A 500-1000 word essay describing an incident, person, or book which has had an important influence on your life. VIEW SUGGESTED ESSAY FORMAT
  5. A résumé of your leadership experience, employment experience, awards/honors, and volunteer activities. VIEW SUGGESTED RESUME FORMAT

Current SHSU or Transfer Students

To apply for admission to the Honors College, transfer or current SHSU students must submit the following:

  1. APPLY ONLINE
  2. Official transcript(s) from each college/university you have attended.
  3. Two letters of recommendation from college academic instructors (from the most recent college you attended) with current knowledge of your academic performance and motivation. (You are more than welcome to send in additional letters from non-academic instructors but the above two are mandatory.)

Application should be submitted online. Please submit the application only once.

You will not receive an immediate confirmation email but will receive a confirmation once your application is processed by our office staff.

If necessary, any additional documents may be sent by email, mail, or brought to the Honors College Office.
