Bio

Dr. Andrea Smith graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biological Sciences and from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She received a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing. She has worked in labor and delivery/antepartum, high-risk obstetrics home health, obstetrics/gynecology research, and undergraduate/graduate nursing education. She received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington. During her Ph.D. program, she participated in a biomechanics of patient room standardization research study, was named University of Texas at Arlington Ph.D. Scholar, and received the Mary Lou Bond fellowship. Her research interests include sleep disturbances during pregnancy, sleep quality in pediatrics, nurses' knowledge, and practices when caring for patients with obstructive sleep apnea, and nurse fatigue. Prior to her current faculty position, she served as the Nurse Researcher for a nonprofit hospital system located south of downtown Dallas, Texas, was an assistant professor at Texas Christian University, taught as MSN adjunct faculty at Baylor University and Regis College, and served as a part-time Research Consultant with Hospital Corporation of America.
