The Fashion Merchandising Program at Sam Houston has been in operation since the late 1960s.  During your studies, you will be exposed to three major components:  the business side of the fashion industry, product knowledge aspects (textiles, patternmaking, and apparel production), and visual merchandising/promotion. The program culminates in a 300-hour internship with a fashion-based business at the retail or manufacturing level that has included, in the past, businesses such as Nordstrom, Dillard’s, Forever 21, and many specialty boutiques.  During the program you will have the choice of pursuing the Bachelor of Arts degree (with a foreign language component) or the Bachelor of Science degree (with additional math and science requirements).  Financial opportunities are also available, as the department has many scholarships, with two designated specifically for fashion merchandising majors.
