  • Adult Education Graduate Certificate
    The Adult Education certificate will provide students with strategies and techniques necessary to effectively educate adults. Individuals holding either a bachelors or masters degree who wish to provide professional development or trainings to educate adults in schools, business, non-profit organizations, and/or institutions of higher learning would be prime candidates for this certificate.   • Bilingual Diagnostician Graduate Certificate
    The Bilingual Educational Diagnostician Program prepares educational diagnosticians who have Spanish and English language proficiency to evaluate English Language Learners (ELLs) as well as students who are monolingual English speakers. Graduate students learn to establish language dominance and proficiency in Spanish and English, conduct assessments, interpret results, and make educational recommendations for learners in school settings.   • Digital Literacies Graduate Certificate
    Given the implications of current policy and technology in education, this certificate will provide coursework that allows participants to examine the role of digital literacy in education through the evaluation of digital literacies, their politics, problems, and possibilities, and will enable a deeper understanding of ways to incorporate digital literacies into curricula. Educators will gain a richer conceptualization of digital literacies and their place in twenty-first century education, in addition to understanding ways to apply appropriate programs and applications to their current teaching practices.   • Dyslexia Graduate Certificate

    The Graduate Dyslexia Certificate provides students with the strategies and techniques necessary to effectively assess and plan instruction for students with dyslexia. This certificate will benefit individuals who wish to incorporate instructional strategies in the classroom or as a dyslexia specialist. This dyslexia certificate course work covers the necessary components that the State of Texas outlines in The Dyslexia Handbook (2018). SHSU students who complete the course work for this certificate will gain competence in assessment and differential screening, instruction in the components of phonological and graphophonemic knowledge, and instruction that is multisensory, explicit, sequential, and cumulative. This certificate is not a licensing or national certification program but rather focuses on the classroom practitioner and/or interventionist.   • Early Childhood Education Graduate Certificate
    The Early Childhood Education Certificate offers additional coursework in Early Childhood Education to public and private school teachers, administrators, and support professionals who hold a baccalaureate degree and who are seeking additional knowledge and training in the field of Early Childhood Education.   • Early Childhood Special Education Graduate Certificate
    The Early Childhood Special Education certificate combines early childhood education and special education courses to provide additional training for individuals who teach or work with children with special needs.   • Educational Technology Certificate
    Conducted 100% online, the Graduate Certificate in Educational Technology will provide students with the necessary tools to critically analyze technology for instructional use and to apply technology to the curriculum in a coherent and intelligent manner. Individuals in PK-12, Higher Education, Business/Industry, Medical, Military, or professionals involved with training and professional development for their organization would be suitable candidates for this program.   • Effective Online Instruction Graduate Certificate
    Conducted 100% online, the Effective Online Instruction graduate certificate provides students with the strategies and techniques necessary to effectively teach online courses. This certificate will benefit individuals who wish to incorporate best practices in online instruction for business, non-profit organizations, and/or institutions of higher learning.   • Play Therapy Graduate Certificate
    This 12-hour certificate program provides specialized academic training in therapeutic play modalities for master’s level, degree-seeking students as well as post-master’s practitioners seeking professional training. Students will be impressed with our state-of-the-art training facilities, located on our main campus, as it is outfitted with 2- play rooms, 3-sandtray rooms, and videotaping capabilities.   • Second Language Instruction Graduate Certificate
    The Second Language Instruction certificate is designed for national and international in-service teachers who work with students learning English as a second or foreign language in elementary, secondary, university, or adult education programs. It includes training in theoretical and applied linguistics, second language teaching methodology, and the cultural aspects of language learning, teaching, and assessment.     The Special Education Transition Services Graduate Certificate is designed for post-bachelor’s degree students interested in developing and increasing their skills in the area of special education transition services. The training is also of benefit to special educators seeking a master’s degree with an emphasis on transition services and to employees in state agencies with responsibility for supporting adults with disabilities in the workforce and vocational rehabilitation fields.
