The Department of Dance at Sam Houston State University delivers a dynamic, holistic, challenging experience that integrates creativity, performance and scholarly pursuits designed to prepare each student for a 21st century career in dance. With outstanding facilities that include a state-of-the-art Dance Theater, four beautiful dance studios, a dance technology lab, a full costume shop, and a fully equipped Pilates studio, the Department of Dance offers a wide range of choreographic and performance opportunities for its undergraduate and graduate dance majors. The Department has been consistently recognized for outstanding choreography and performance by the National Dance Festival at The Kennedy Center. Many alumni are working regionally, nationally, and internationally as successful performers, choreographers, artistic directors, and teachers. Seven full-time faculty and four part-time faculty bring the expertise of their professional performing careers and choreographic portfolios to guide the next generation of dance artists.

Admission to the Department of Dance requires an audition. There are three undergraduate auditions and two graduate auditions offered each year. Additionally, the Department of Dance’s distribution of approximately $20,000 in scholarships each academic year is determined in the auditions. Click here for dates and registration.
