Anya Hommadova Lu received her M.A. in International Relations and Ph.D. in Advanced Japanese Studies from University of Tsukuba in Japan after which she completed her second Ph.D. in Communication Studies from Arizona State University. Her research in Japan were funded by the Japanese Ministry of Science Technology and Education (MEXT). Her work has published in journals such as New Media and Society, Computers in Human Behavior, Health Communicaiton, Journal of Nonverbal Behavior and more.

Dr. Lu is passionate about applied communication practices and has an eclectic research interest ranging from patient-centered communication, loneliness, game studies, romantic relationships, social support, social capital, social attraction and nonverbal immediacy. Her current funded research projects include Financial communication among couples, International Women Faculty in Accademia and health communication in high vs low risk pregnancies.

Her hobbies include collecting certificates and licenses. Currently she is working on her falconry license and ACUE certification.
