Ava Fujimoto-Strait
Assistant Professor of Practice, Environmental and Geosciences
Ava Fujimoto-Strait teaches People, Place and Environment, Weather and Climate, Environmental Geography, and co-teaches the Hawaii Field Course. Her expertise lies in biogeography, place-based learning methodologies, and field education experiences.
Her research focuses on soil physical properties, human-environment interaction, and place-based learning approaches. Recent projects include collaborating with K-12 teachers to improve geographic education in the Houston metropolitan area, developing innovative teaching methodologies, and incorporating community engagement and research in field experiences.
For impact projects, she welcomes students interested in human impact on the environment, soils, weather and climate, and place-based educational experiences.
