SHSU-COM Class of 2025 Continues Record of Excellence with 100 Percent COMLEX-USA Level 3 Pass Rate

From the classroom to clinical rotations to residency training, the Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine Class of 2025 has continued to set a high standard for student success.

SHSU-COM is proud to announce that graduates from the Class of 2025 earned a 100 percent first-time pass rate on the COMLEX-USA Level 3 exam, placing the college among only four osteopathic medical schools in the nation to achieve a perfect first-time pass rate during the 2025 testing cycle.

This marks the second consecutive year that SHSU-COM graduates have achieved a perfect first-time pass rate on COMLEX-USA Level 3, following the same accomplishment by the college’s inaugural Class of 2024.

The achievement is another defining moment for a class that has helped establish SHSU-COM as one of the nation’s emerging leaders in osteopathic medical education.

“The Class of 2025 has been an exceptional group from the very beginning,” said Thomas J. Mohr, DO, dean of SHSU-COM and vice president for medical affairs at SHSU. “They have demonstrated academic strength, clinical readiness and a deep commitment to the communities they are preparing to serve. This result is another powerful reflection of who they are and what they are capable of accomplishing.”

COMLEX-USA Level 3 is the final exam in the national licensure series for doctors of osteopathic medicine. Typically taken during the first year of residency, the exam assesses whether physicians can apply clinical knowledge, clinical judgment and osteopathic principles in the independent practice of medicine.

For the Class of 2025, the Level 3 result is part of a broader story of excellence.

As student doctors, the class earned national recognition for performance on COMLEX-USA Level 1, a foundational science exam taken before students begin clinical rotations. They went on to celebrate a 99 percent residency placement rate on Match Day.

More than 55 percent of the Class of 2025 matched into residency programs in Texas, supporting SHSU-COM’s mission to strengthen the state’s physician workforce. Many graduates entered specialties that are central to improving healthcare access, including over 56 percent in primary care and over 11 percent in psychiatry.

Together, these milestones reflect a class that is prepared for the next step in training, ready to care for patients and positioned to help meet the workforce needs of Texas.

The college welcomed its first class in 2020 and earned full 10-year accreditation with Exceptional Outcomes, the highest distinction granted by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, in 2024. Since then, SHSU-COM has continued to build momentum through strong board performance, successful residency outcomes, growing graduate medical education partnerships and an expanding commitment to research and innovation.

For SHSU-COM, the Class of 2025’s latest accomplishment reinforces the college’s mission and its growing reputation for preparing physicians who are ready to serve.
