Andy Langley, DO, Joins SHSU-COM as Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs

Donald “Andy” Langley, DO, has joined Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM) as associate dean for clinical affairs, bringing extensive experience in osteopathic medical education, clinical training and physician leadership.

In his new role, Langley will help guide the clinical education of SHSU-COM student doctors during the third and fourth years of medical school, when they train alongside physicians and care teams in clinics and hospitals across Texas. He will focus on enhancing the clinical education experience and helping student doctors build the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for board examinations, residency and future practice.

“Dr. Langley brings extensive experience in clinical education and a strong understanding of what student doctors need during the clinical years and what it takes to support the preceptors and clinical partners who help train them,” said Thomas J. Mohr, DO, vice president for medical affairs and dean of SHSU-COM. “He understands that strong clinical education depends on strong relationships, clear communication and a shared commitment to our student doctors. We are thrilled to have him on our team.”

Before joining SHSU-COM, Langley held clinical education leadership roles at the Louisiana and Alabama campuses of the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he helped develop clinical training opportunities and worked closely with student doctors, physicians and training sites. His experience also includes graduate medical education and service as an internal medicine residency program director.

Langley earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and is board certified in internal medicine and hospice and palliative medicine. Throughout his career, he has taught and mentored student doctors and residents and has maintained a strong interest in improving access to high-quality healthcare in rural and underserved communities.

“The opportunity to join SHSU-COM and work with its student doctors, faculty, staff, preceptors and clinical partners is exciting,” Langley said. “Clinical education is built on strong partnerships, and I look forward to learning from the people who have helped build this program, strengthening those relationships and finding new ways to support our student doctors throughout their clinical training.”

Langley’s arrival supports SHSU-COM’s continued work to provide high-quality clinical education and prepare physicians to meet the healthcare needs of communities across East Texas, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
