PSYC 4392 - The psychology of work, people, and performance

What is I/O Psychology?
I/O psychology applies the science of human behavior to the workplace. You’ll explore how organizations attract and develop talent, what actually motivates people at work, how leaders and teams succeed, and how to measure performance fairly. It’s psychology with a direct line to the world you’re about to enter.

• Skills employers want: hiring and selection, training, motivation, leadership, performance management, and people analytics.

• Useful for any path: valuable whether you’re headed toward HR, management, consulting, business, UX research, or grad school.

• A strong, growing field: I/O is consistently one of the highest-paying psychology specialties, with steady job growth projected through 2034 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).

• No doctorate required: a master’s degree is the typical entry point, and I/O psychologists earn a median of about $110,000 a year (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2024) — among the highest in all of psychology.
