The Psychological Services Center

The PSC strives to provide psychological services for individuals and families who are underserved in the Huntsville community and the greater East Texas region. Thus, all services are provided on a sliding scale. That is, clients are billed based on their income and other factors that affect their ability to pay for services.

mission

The PSC has a dual mission: providing services to the community and providing clinical training for doctoral-level students. The PSC is staffed by students in the clinical psychology doctoral training program housed within the Department of Psychology and Philosophy at Sam Houston State University (SHSU). All students and clinical activities are closely supervised by licensed psychologists who are faculty or staff at SHSU.

The PSC strives to provide psychological services for individuals and families who are underserved in the Huntsville community and the greater East Texas region. Thus, all services are provided on a sliding scale. That is, clients are billed according to their income and other factors that influence their ability to pay for services.

The PSC provides psychotherapy for children, adolescents, adults, and families. We also offer psychological assessments, including psychodiagnostic, and psychoeducational for children, adolescents, and adults.

The PSC provides forensic psychology services to various courts and local jurisdictions throughout East Texas.

Frequently Asked Questions

To obtain services from the PSC, individuals are encouraged to call (936) 294-1210 to complete a telephone intake with a student clinic coordinator. The telephone intake is free and typically takes about 20-45 minutes. During this time, the clinic coordinators will ask about your reasons for seeking psychological services and make an appropriate treatment recommendation. Although parents may call to seek service for their children, individuals over the age of 17 must contact the PSC on their own.

The PSC strives to help all clients promptly, but sometimes faces a waiting list that may range from 1 to 8 weeks. If you are unable to wait the length of the waiting list, please ask the staff for an appropriate referral.

Agencies interested in obtaining services through the PSC should contact the Clinic Director for more information about available services. Attorneys and courts interested in these services are also encouraged to contact the Clinic Director.

All clinicians at the Psychological Services Center are doctoral students in psychology who are completing extensive training in providing psychological services. Licensed psychologists supervise all work completed at the PSC.

Fees at the clinic are determined from a sliding scale based on income and number of dependents. Costs for services provided via agency contracts are discussed with the Clinic Director. The PSC does not accept insurance.

You are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate for the services you received.
